Personal physical rehabilitation can improve lower back pain
Types of Physical Rehabilitation Exercise
There are several mechanical methods and physical agent’s that rehabilitation specialists use to relieve pain. Exercise, for example, can be added to your regular daily activity and will improve your flexibility, strength, coordination, or endurance. Other remedies such as ultrasound, ice/heat packs and muscle stimulation will help increase flexibility. The goals of physical rehabilitation treatment are not to cure most conditions, but to lessen the symptoms.
The goal of McKenzie therapy is to centralize the pain, or move the pain from the leg into the low back, as low back pain is generally better tolerated than leg pain. The approach to back exercises was developed specifically to centralize and relieve back related pain symptoms. Research substantiates that exercise will improve specific conditions with specialized treatments.
Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation
Referred to as TENS, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation is a type of E-stim used to manage acute and chronic pain. While researchers haven’t concluded its exact mechanisms of action, it is thought that by reaching certain receptors with a frequency will send non-painful stimuli through injured tissues and into the nervous system. This stimulation can cause a positive therapeutic effect.
